Build a theatre for "Dramautism," a dramatic arts program for children with autism
Idea Description
We've been teaching Dramautism since 2005. Dramautism is a specialized dramatic arts program designed to help children with autism build their communication & social skills. Autistic children have difficulty in communicating & making friends and are often bullied at school. Dramautism helps them address these challenges by building their self-esteem. The kids are treated like a professional theatre troupe to give them a sense of belonging & being an important part of a group. We'd like to build a theatre or purchase an existing location for the kids with on-site storage space for costumes, puppets, props, learning tools, sets, etc.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
Use the money to help with a down payment on a theatre. Also, we would like to hire more staff to help teach the classes.
Vote for it now.
This is an incredible idea! I work with kids with Autism ages 3-8, and have seen what a powerful effect music, movement, and theater can have. Good luck!
Even if you can't actually *build* a space (which would be extremely expensive), perhaps an existing one can be purchased, and this money can be used as a down payment. Great idea!
Thank you, princesspeach. Actually, we would like an existing space that we could build up to accommodate a dramatic arts program for autistic children. Most children on the spectrum are very visual; so we have animatronics to visually engage the autistic child to make an initial connection with them.
Great idea-kids need to feel they can accomplish things and are good at an activity, sport, hobby or the arts. Especially if they are bullied, it is so unfair that autistic children are bullied and/or made fun of. I hope you can win to create this theatre for them! mtn3girl
beautiful idea... Nothing more is needed.... Hope you win:)
Thank you for all your support!
I agree that we should promote the teaching of Dramautism. We should get the word out and help them raise funds. I took classes at LAUSD to get my Direct Service Professional 1 & 2 to learn how to care for these precious lives. They are a gift to us and we must try very hard to give them the right of expression, choice, communication and entertainment. Kevin Termunde was our Instructor at the Kennedy-San Fernando Campus on Rinaldi in Granada Hills and he taught the best class I ever attended. Thanks Kevin. I can help anyone raise funds for their favorite Foundations through the facilitation of commodity sales. If you know of any Foundation needing money just contact me and I will show you how. It would be a pleasure to serve you and my fellow charities. My non-profit is called Ma…moregnus Second Chance which was conceived out of the love for the Developmental Disabled. This foundation will grow to serve the needs of the community for those children with Mental Challenges, Cerebral Palsy, Tonic-Clonic Epileptic Seisures, Autism Spectrum Disorder, various genetic and chromosomal disorders such as Down syndrome and Fragile X syndrome, and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. I have had two diagnosed Autistic students in my CHildren's Theatre Workshop , one in tha past and one current. It has helped them termendously. In addition, several of our children have learned much from these persons. How great for them. Dottie
Dear Dottiez, They're God's gifts to our world. Theatre really opens them up to the amazement of their neurotypical peers. Thank you for your comment. Best wishes, Debra
