Idea Description
Providing fresh and locally grown produce for people in need while engaging a diverse group of New London County youth in working and learning together on the land is the goal of the Helping Harvester summer youth program. Terra Firma Farm staff has developed a program that will enhance the work of local youth and hunger organizations while at the same time involve community residents in sustainable agriculture.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
County-wide recruitment will began for the Summer Youth Program. Area middle schools and high schools will be actively targeted along with Boys and Girls Clubs, church and other youth organizations, homeschoolers etc. Youth will submit applications and be interviewed. 20 participants will be selected to start the summer program. Participants selected will be 14-17 years old and reflect the diversity of New London County. The youth work a 20-30 hour work week, and will paid a stipend from grant funds raised for the Program.
