What advice do you have to help me grow my idea?
(21 pieces of advice)by duckwalk03.14.08 | 06:12 PMBe careful to protect the privacy of all families posting. They may inadvertently share information they didn't really mean to put in the hands of a malingering web surfer. No last names or home towns of course. Even so, sickos can figure out a lot from cues like "Midtown Little League" and "Thomas Jefferson High School" and "Doctor Smith in Philadelphia" and "Washington County Social Services."

by Rehxfei03.02.08 | 07:47 PMHello ^_^
I'm an adult with autism. Obviously, I've been autistic my whole life. I was never taken to a doctor to be diagnosed when I was child because my parents were rather ignorant of the existence of autism, but that's not a bad thing. It is true that I had a lot of negative experiences growing up because of my differences in perception, thinking, and expressing myself, but through all my experiences I have learned something very valuable.
Autism is not a disorder that is to be frowned upon. A psychological disorder is what happens when a normal brain malfunctions. Autism, however, is a brain that developed differently since birth and, therefore, functions differently than a normal (neuro-typical) brain. An autistic person is, essentially, no different than a normal person. Even among neuro-typicals, there is wide variety of ways in which people think, perceive and express themselves. Autism is kind of like an anomaly in that is a greater amount of difference than most of society.
One thing I've learned in my lifetime is that people (all p…moreeople to include autistics) create the world they are familiar with, the world they grew to know through the experiences they've had throughout their entire past. The worse the world they know, the worse the world they create. The better the world they know, the better the world they create. The best treatment there is for anyone with any problem, or even no problems, is to feel loved and appreciated.
I don't agree with the "treatments" out there for autism, or anything else for that matter. On a general level, it is treating the symptoms, and in return, creating different symptoms, as opposed to simply treating the problem where it all began. On a specific level, autistic treatment is about trying to make autistics be more like the rest of the world. Why not embrace their differences as I have learned to embrace my own? Everyone has a unique personality, and everyone can teach you something wonderful if you just take the time to accept that they are different and listen to them.
Thank you very much for your attention.

by tknkareofus02.29.08 | 01:40 PMI would enjoy seeing focus put on awarenes and acceptance. Autistic individuals have so much to offer with or without the ability to verbalize. They're very unique individuals with understanding can teach us "typically" developing people a lot of different lessons. So many times these individuals are misunderstood or thought to have nothing to offer but that is so untrue. It's us that need to change and explore their world and embrace the differences instead of trying to conform them to our rules. My son loves to spin, so what, let him spin, it's relaxing to him. His noises that he use to make before becoming verbal were expressive forms of communication. Some look at those are annoying and inappropriate. It would just be nice to see more people focus on the positives.

by george36202.29.08 | 01:13 AMSpecial emphasis should be made on the suspected cause of autism, which is the mercury in childrens vaccines! Since the government is trying to prevent the makers of vaccines from being held responsible to poisoning these children, we need to force them to be held accountable for the trajedy they have caused!

by RKiHomes02.25.08 | 08:12 AMCheck out Zowbie Consulting as a webdesigner (www.zowbie.com) sites like what you are describing are around $2,000. For the email campaign look into iContact, http://zowbie.icontact.com both are great services that I have been VERY pleased with. Another email campaign service is www.myemma.com, however they seem to be more expensive than iContact. The company also provides hosting for $8.95 a month with unlimitted email addresses.

by aiwerks02.24.08 | 11:54 AMIncluding a forum where parents can talk about their struggles and get advice from one another would be a great addition to your site. This is very popular in the twins community. Good luck!

Hi Sunny~ Web sites like yours may someday be the guiding force in assisting medical and other professionals to fit the pieces of the Autism puzzle together and find a cure. Thanks! Hope
Terrific idea. You sure have my support. Let me know when you get those bumper stickers going. I will be first in line.
I have two year old triplets who show some signs of Autism but have not been diagnosed. A site like this could help me understand what Autism really means in day-to-day life to a child, instead of the clinical terms and tests the heathcare people and therapists talk in terms of. Autistic children are as diverse as snowflakes... I would love to understand the Spectrum more. You got my vote!!
great idea. I hope you win.
You have our support for sure! Great idea! We would love to help the website financially as well. Keep me posted!
this is a great idea! I will forward to friends and family.

I am a teacher in knoxville and I see more and more kids in my classes with Autism - this would be a great resource. rahwarren
Sunny is my daughter and we are very proud of her. We feel her children are very lucky to have her as their Mother. She is very serious about this and has spent many hours reading and studying about autism. Her husband is quite a young man also . We are very proud of her and him. We intend to continue to support her as she sets up her new website and hope she will win the $10,000 prize. I believe she will be very worthy of the prize. Russ Hammonds
Sunny! Great idea from a great girl! I wish you the best and you got my VOTE! Love ya! Jack Maness
A sharing of life's struggles, though often a burden on the writer at the time, can help a countless number of lives. For example, consider Anne Frank whose autobiography has helped millions deal with a most difficult struggle that occurred some 60 years ago. Good luck in your sharing. Patrick
Sunny, you have my vote & my support, please keep me posted! Love ya! Mandi
With every fight you rarely win waiting around the corner will be a much bigger battle. I have a son that has Aspergers and every day is a struggle with the things that are simple to us but trying to climb a very steep mountain to him. He is 9 now and what helps him I realized is to listen to his wants that may seem so bizzare to us but sometimes we tend to forget his world is so much diffrent than ours,so when he tells me he needs to calm down he wants to go and listen to Elvis. So I am learning to listen better, and learn to pick your battles. Just hold on and realize us as parents have to be our kids voices. So if you listen to them, their wants and needs then maybe you can find a common ground with your child that you both understand, and can help each other. Good Luck,Mikyds
I love what you are trying to do...and I just happen to be a professional web designer that is willing to offer you his services free of charge. You can email me at ericloydesign@gmail.com

Thank you Sunny from the Grandmother of a potentially autistic grandson. May God Bless You, Your Family and All your ellorts. Granny D
Great Idea, keep me posted Cheryl
I am so proud of you for doing this. My grandchildren have a fantastic Mommy!! This will help so many out there that are like we were and do not know what to look for. You have done so much research and talked to so many people both professionals and parents and can relay your findings so that other parents know some of the things to look for. As we have found out not all cases are the same and there are so many signs to to watch for. There is such a need for this information. I admire you for taking this on in your "SPARE TIME", since a 10 minute shower is a luxury . You know I will do anythig to help! Your are a wonderful Mommy & daughter. Mom
Sunny, I admire you and hope you attain this goal. May God bless you and your family and your efforts to help others like you! Linda
If you go to godaddy.com, you can buy the domain name for 9.95 and you will have a free website and email included. Hope this information helps you on your way!

absolutely wonderful idea! check out my idea when you have the chance. I think you should be one of our first users :) cheers! -huyuno.com
It is very true that autism is a major problem and growing. Luckily though in many ways they are finding ways to treat it and help people with autism interact with society in a fairly normal way. This is a great idea to let parents discuss their issues and problems with each other and let others learn about autism. Who knows, you might end up getting to hang out with Doug Fluttie.

Sunny, we are so proud of you and this undertaking. As the mother of your chiropractor, who is hearing impaired, we were told when we learned of his disability, that he would never attend regular schools nor would he be like other "normal" children. Well, with lots of perseverance and patience, he is a doctor and a very caring and nurturing individual. Just let this encourage you to stay the course and persevere. MSELF
