A new hybrid sport, Ice Lacrosse, combination of Hockey/Lacrosse. In essence, it is Lacrosse played on the ice in skates with full hockey gear. Some Divisions will offer full contact, others won’t. The emphasis in this game is strong skating skills and superior teamwork. Given that Canada has over 545 000 participants in its National Hockey program, I can ultize this player base to generate interest and pool resources during Hockey downtimes. While this is not a new idea, its something that has great potential, not in widespread use, and needs a solid business plan with funding to generate momentum
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
Canada has an extensive youth Hockey program, Hockey Canada, with over 545 000 participants. This is astonishing, considering that we only have a national population of 32 million. This intensive involvement has led to the development of an extensive infrastructure, with junior programs, hockey rinks and community support. My idea would be to utilize this infrastructure to create new leagues for IceLacrosse during the downtimes in the spring. Next steps would be to contact organizations in Toronto and pitch the idea to them, start a massive marketing campaign (drawing players initially from hockey programs), working out the rules and safety.
