Idea Description
I did a project for my Energy Design class last semester in college and found out that there are few good resources for people to explore the economic viability of installing forms of alternative energy. The site would offer advice from experts and a forum to ask questions. Also it would go through how to make the appropriate calculations for the different energies to see if installation of an alternative energy would have a good payback period.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
Expansion, try to find people who consult in the energy industry who would be interested in making some more side money by helping other people. For instance, if they gave advice to someone and then that person says the advice is useful then they would recieve compensation for that advice.

Very useful, a comprehensive and reliable site for alternative energy is hard to find. The challenge would be identifying a revenue stream. You mentioned having paid consultants giving advice so finding a way to pay them will be necessary. Maybe it could be a nonprofit that receives donations from users and other interested parties. While expenses for a website will be low, they still exist and don't forget to include fair compensation for yourself. Talk to some web designers about a pilot site that could get you going and also talk to some energy consultants to see if they would help with advice.
