Please vote for me to help green the earth! Plant propagation home business to help low/fixed income folks. Everyone wins with this idea!!!!
Idea Description
Propagating plants organically from cuttings taken from established nonpatented plants. This business can be run in anyone's own yard and rootings sold by mail. Nurseries, both large and small, are always looking for rootings by the thousands, so there is a great market for them. Plants can be allowed to grow to mature plants and be sold also. I have an established network of fellow growers that will both sell cuttings and buy rootings. Once my business is well established, I will contact various agencies to find low/fixed income families looking for a way to supplement their income. I will train these ones and even let them use a piece of my yard if needed to start their own business.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
A sad note, my husband passed away on 6/4/08. Now I need this more than ever! Please help me! I will locate a nice piece of land to purchase, probably through a land auction, to begin my business. Then I will build the propagation beds and purchase thousands of cuttings to begin production. Once I am self sustaining, I will then let community agencies know of my offer to train low income families to learn this business to allow them to improve their situation. That really gets me stoked! People helping themselves in their own yards on their own time. How fullfilling that will be! They don't have to get a second low paying job to take care of their family. They will be self-sustaining!!!!
Vote for it now.

Are you trying to set up a franchise?
Say jpq123, I don't have to. I am going to use the info from freeplants.com and Mike McGroarty to get me started. Franchises cost a lot and make people crazy with rules. Do your own thing! Thanks for writing a comment!
You're very welcome. I'm also known as coljim. I think your idea is great. The idea of a community garden has always fascinated me, but you're going to make it more personal.
Hi coljim, I am thrilled you see the beneficial results that can be gotten by helping individuals learn how to make a better living for themselves. Yes, I am looking forward to my adventure into self-sustainability, but the largest reward comes from helping others and seeing the pride they come to have in knowing they are helping themselves. Should some not have a plot of land, they can use a portion of mine, free at first, then as they become successful, they can pay a small rental fee that will then go toward helping others. I will also encourage all those I assist, to pass on the knowledge so that many now enslaved to minimum wage jobs can feel the joy of independace and accomplishment!!!! Thanks again coljim, I need to look up if you have an offering here and vote for you!
Good luck this sounds good.
Thank you celestedawn, I am really looking forward to doing this and if anyone else wants to do it, they can also!
A good minimal investment is to buy this month's Mother Earth News (or look it up online) and read about their small container gardens. This should help you to figure out a way to do this even in your MH park without having to worry about someone coming in to destroy it. Sustainability is one of my passions! Also, go to http://www.simpleliving.net/main/ and browse their website. Wonderful source of information and fellowship. Also, if you want to chat, I'm Wendy, or inspector_wendy on here. Good luck!
Thanks so much inspector_wendy, I will surely look into those resources. Here in Arizona, container gardens tend to get baked by our intensely hot long days. I am sure there is a way to further insulate the roots so they don't cook and die on me!!!!
All the best with your project and this crazy competition. I have been in the competition for what seems like forever, and I've been saddened to learn that people's hearts aren't where we might like (or expect) them to be! Don't lose site of your goals, but try not to put all your eggs in one basket like I did ;) A great resource book is Mel Bartholomew's Square Foot Gardening. It's one of the techniques I plan to use for my Earth Garden Project that will materialize despite this competition. Wishing you all the best! You have my vote by the way. natalie
Aw, rcygirl, sorry you did not win this month. You can still keep trying each month and maybe you will win with accumulated votes. I surely do not put all my hopes on this contest. I know there are people who have a lot more connections than I do and sometimes it is just numbers, not neccessarily the best idea. I will look into that book you suggested, and thanks for the good wishes. I wish you success as well!!!!
Joanne sent me and I voted. What a great idea.
Thanks so much Jim! And, as always, Thanks To Joanne!!!!!
Great idea. Best of luck to you!
Thanks BlueAngel!!! And I would like a vote of confidence from all of you folks!!!!!
Just a sad note today, my husband Chuck passed away yesterday, June 4th, 2008. All of you folks are so helpful and friendly, I just had to share with you. He was only 54, and I am 56. More than ever I will look forward to using this system to sustain me in the years ahead. Again, thank you al for your kind votes and messages! Fran
