Electronic Automated Home Medication Dispensing Machine for the Elderly
Idea Description
Create an electronic automated home medication dispensing machine which would be used by the elderly to dispense exact prescribed amounts of medication at required time intervals. This sealed machine would be required to be filled or refilled by participating pharmacies. The electronic component of the machine would use web based communications to doctors for medication orders. Patient medication usage could be tracked by doctors based upon the actual amount dispensed. Elderly patients, whom may have issues remembering multiple dosages and time intervals due to confusion or age related issues, would only be required to press a button and the appropriate dosage would be dispensed.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
$10,000 would allow for the initial engineering design, potential patent application, and feasibility study to determine the overall need.

Q1: The most significant potential challenge is identifying the diversities associated with the dispensing of medications, due to different shapes, sizes, and dosages, and applying precise engineering which would be required to design such a machine that can be used in the home and also be portable.
Actually, I am seriously working on this.
I think this is a great idea. I see potential for one improvement... if a dosage is missed the system should beep or make a voice announcement to remind the elderly person to take their meds if the dosage is still not taken it should notify someone via email or automated telephone message. This could be a family memmber, someone providing care, doctor, pharmacy or so forth who could call or look in on the person. Good luck and if you make it big remember the little people.
This is a life-savingly important idea. The number of health problems associated with improper medication use is outstanding. This is genius!
