“Food” is a huge business, and as such has room for many “niche” suppliers. Small and start up companies with (or with plans for) specialized products should visit web site for the specialty food industry trade association (www.nasft.org), and if producing certified organic products the Organic Trade Association (OTA) site at www.ota.com . To be commercially viable your idea must translate into specific products that meet the consumers’ life style as well or better than existing products. Local independent retailers will usually cooperate with small scale tests that allow you to gage consumer reaction and repeat sales. This is a great idea! I really like the idea about eco-friendly packaging. I think consumers are increasingly willing to pay the small premium for eco-friendly packaging... something a la Wholefoods?
