Simple Sugar Straw
Simple Sugar Straw
Idea Description
I would like to develop a drinking straw that will detect the presence of sugar in soft drinks. My 9 yr old son has type one diabetes. In this disease his pancreas does not produce insulin which is needed to transport sugar from the blood stream to cells. There have been several occasions when we have ordered a diet soda for him and he got a regular soda. This adversely effects his blood sugars. This straw would warn of the presence of sugars in the soda thus preventing life threatening sugar inbalances.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
If I win the 10K I would use the money to research the feasibility of developing a cost effective widely marketable simple sugar straw by working with researchers and developers.
Vote for it now.

Q1: 1st business challenge is determining if a method of identification can be developed to determine the presence of simple sugars in soft drinks.
I can see where it would be, but was not aware there was a question of liability in this matter. If that's the case, and I assume you did the research, the question would then become, would the threat of liability be worth the risk? Would that amount of sugar, once in a while, adversely affect the child/comsumer? Good luck on your idea!
