Cold Closer
Cold Closer
Idea Description
Doors on freezers and refrigerators that are not fully closed allow cold air to escape the appliance, wasting energy and allowing food to spoil. Spoiled food may not be noticed immediately, and has the potential to cause food poisoning if it is consumed. The Cold Closer uses a padded, spring-driven arm to close freezer and refrigerator doors, keeping the contents of an appliance cool and saving energy. The unit attaches to appliances with strong magnets, and also contains a programmable computer with an LCD display to keep track of stored food items, and adjustable audio and visual alerts to notify users of expiring items.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
With $10K, my next steps would be to add attached temperature sensors that can be placed inside appliances to alert of appliance failures, and pressure sensors on the closing arm to alert of jammed doors. I would also research the feasibility of producing heavy commercial and industrial models of the Cold Closer, as well as units that are designed for sliding and other types of freezer and refrigeration unit doors.
Vote for it now.

Sounds like a cool invention. Good luck.
