Idea Description
Every artist has the same problem of obtaining capital for their next recording. Tune Your World provides the solution of applying micro-financing to the music industry. Our groundbreaking approach is the creation of peer-to-peer micro-financing of new music projects - enabling fans to deliver start-up capital to aspiring musicians from developing countries. Tune Your World operates on a people-to-people model. Musicians obtain funding for new recordings directly from their fans without giving up ownership or control. Our mission is to revitalize the music industry in places where the music industry has never worked very well. www.tuneyourworld.com
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
This prize would help change the way the world finances music. Tune Your World is an Open Source music project that enables artists and fans to co-produce new works of art and share in the creative process. We need to complete development and support work to ensure that the first artists who use our micro-financing tools are successful. Our international music network already includes over 3,000 international musicians and more than 75,000 registered users. Early success will help spread the word about this radical new approach to music production-ultimately supporting all of the artists we work with around the world. www.tuneyourworld.com

Sounds pretty groovy.
Great idea. One of the best (in some cases only!) ways for some talented musicians to get out there to a wider audience. I wish you every success.
Have you thought of connecting with kiva.com? They give miro loans (up to at least several hundred dollars) to small entrepreneurs --they collect $25- loans from however many people it takes to finance a project. Maybe they'd spring for something like recording studio/mixing/pressing costs for indiv artists or groups? Then of course all the investors would be eagewr to buy CDs for thmselves & friends, even though some cuts would be distributed free online. I've noticed that younger folks download music, but most older ones copy from CD to computer or MP3. Also, our kids (teen & adult) go through MP3 players like water--they get lost, stepped on, who knows what--so want CDs as backup anyway. HTH! Leslie Sirag

One goes with the other and both needs need help?!!!!! Why just help the sound art when you could work with the sound and visual at the same time!!!! Go.
I discovered this site months ago while looking for kwaito. With Calabash I've been introduced to so many amazing artists from genres I didn't even know existed. And knowing that this supports artists from around the world is the best part. It's a great concept that is well executed and worth our vote.
Yes, this is what we need to do!
It would be great to see music begin drifting back in the direction of quality and innovation, away from music industry metrix. (And meretriciousness.)
Hey Calabash, I just checked out your website and it's amazing. Your company is pretty similar to our entry POTA: sponsor a filmmaker program, except you focus on music and we focus on film! If you enter the contest again, you'll have my vote!
Calabash Music ROCKS!!!!
