Dementia Board Game
Dementia Board Game
Idea Description
My partner and I have designed an educational board game about caring for those with Alzheimer's disease or other dementias. Alzheimer's Disease support group members will be encouraged to share their experiences by playing the game. It can be used to enlighten healthcare and social service professionals. It can also give family members not directly involved with caregiving duties a better understanding of what dementia care is like. Because the game is entertaining as well as educational, it can be used by dementia caregiver's as a way to help them see some humor in the midst of their tragedy. A percentage of all game sales will be donated to The Unforgettable Fund.

As a person experiencing Alzheimer's in a "up close and personal" way. I can tell you with confidence, there is little to smile about with this nasty disease. Most discouraging is the fact that SO FEW people really understand what Alz is like. Surprisingly, few healthcare pros and semi-pros actually KNOW what Alzheimer's is. At times, I want to learn more about it so I can handle my mother with greater professional efficiency, and at other times, I want to run off **** screaming in the night. (mild exaggeration) I can hardly wait to see how this game develops. Sooner or later, we will all be smacked across the face with the realities of Alzheimer's and the stress/bourdon it represents. Alzheimer's is a disease that kills the caregiver. As I have …moreseen this project develop from a simple idea by a child, to a rapidly fleshing out game concept for a theropudic/ trainging/care tool, the closer I look at it, the more realistic and helpfull I see it will become. I think this idea rocks... Let me see it become realityt. PLEASE~! Richard L Oregon
