AUTO BAPTIZMO (ONE POWERFUL IDEA FOR A CAR WASH)
Idea Description
According to a recent Chicago Tribune report, 3/4 of all youth did not work during the summer in 2006; and joblessness among black teens between 16 and 19 years old was 85%. The goal of AUTO BAPTIZMO is to use the parking lots of churches or schools to launch youth-operated car washes which have the potential to wash away boredom, idleness and hopelessness by:
1. Employing 15-25 local (within a 5-7 block radius) youth paying $8 per hour
2. Generating $11K-19K of revenue in 3 months (per church/school location)
3. Using profit of $3K-6K to establish youth-managed fund
4. Using fund to reinvest in franchising youth-operated car wash model
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
Our next steps will be to purchase supplies (wet/dry vacs, towels, uniforms, etc.) and lease the equipment (generators and pressure washers) needed to launch AUTO BAPTIZMO during the summer of 2008. Additional monies will be used to cover additional operating expenses such as payroll, advertising/marketing, signage and printing costs for pre-ticket sales and wash-a-thons.

This idea serves to address one of the biggest problems in our inner ciites (particularly Chicago). It is not only encouraging but absolutely essential. Teens are looking to make money and keep busy. They need legitimate opportunities to develop skills and build job confidence. With too much talk about the problem, this is a practical solution. It also has so much potential to expand.
I love the idea. It sounds like kids get to have fun and make money at the same time. It will definitely provide opportunities for young people in our area. I'd be more than willing to help.
