The Jamaica Leadership Academy - Revolutionary Reform
Revolutionary in structure, expectation and results. The Jamaican Diaspora will support the development of women leaders who are globally competitive, socially prepared and empowered to effect social and economic change at home.
Idea Description
Secondary education is not universal in Jamaica. Many students are displaced due to limited space in schools, lack of social equity and funding. The majority (65%)of students transitioning to secondary school get tracked into a dead-end option where education ends in Grade 9. Girls in particular are plagued with socially ills such as pregnancy and abuse. Hopefully, the larger Diaspora will support this initiative to provide a high quality full secondary education in a safe and nurting intentional community. Curricular focus on global studies, relevant issues of social justice, sustainable lviing and accountability to give back. To help please contact jaleadershipacademy@gmail.com.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
My next steps will be a marketing/ development campaign to garner support from the Ministry of Education and other invested executives in Jamaica, and the larger UK, USian and Canada Diaspora. I will initiate a school website to multiply the funds by accepting matching donations and start the wait list process as evidence of interest.
Vote for it now.

I love the idea. Education is so important. So many of us take it for granted. It is such a precious gift.
It is a serious venture with a serious plan. We need more people like you Educate JA. Good going!
Are there any other organizations you can use as a model? It seems very difficult to build everything yourself.
I applaud your efforts and would love to share ideas with you one of these days. Let me know if I can be of any help.
Whilst I love the idea; I have a few concerns. Firstly, I'm not one to support an effort that is gender biased. Truth be told, the ills that affect one gender shows a greater weakness in the opposite gender. Secondly, i think there is too much corruption in Jamaica [afterall, we're talking about investing in Jamaica...sure corruption exist elsewhere]..and the Ministry of Education has some serious issues that needs to be sorted out, especially with the awarding of GSAT [secondary placement exam] places in a prejudicial manner. The Jamaican society is way too polarized, hence there is no guarantee that the efforts will be welcomed unless you are playing to the right political party. Again, great idea! but needs refining
