  While the idea that you have posted seems kind of outrageous and difficult it did make we try to think of more realistic way of doing something like this and I thought of hover crafts.

  above is a link about how hover crafts work. Why don't you look at that and see if you feel this could be incorporated in with your idea, or maybe even give you a little help as to how to make your dream a reality.
  It may be hard to create a flying carpet that resembles anything like what we saw in cartoon movies. You would have to consider where the energy for these would come from and consider how to make them safe to travel in, you can't really fly around in the sky with no protection. You can probably start with an unrealistic idea and morph it into something really innovative.

  Aerodynamic materials are best for flying purposes. And even if you could make a carpet fly, it might be a problem for it to hold any weight, making rides next to impossible.   I would probably figure out what type of rug would be best built for flying first. Probably one without a fringe. Then I would network with other people who have made other items fly.
