Digital Libraries
Digital Libraries
Idea Description
With the reality of a digital divide becoming more pronounced. It would be a great service to provide internet access to everyone. Libraries currently offer some acesss on a limited amount of computers. My Idea is for digital libraries, or computer centers, available for free to the public, that have only computers, and staff that can advise or teach.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
Every city, town or villiage could use this, but with $10,000 I could work with my local town to create one in Flagstaff, Arizona. I would work with local governments and schools to create a financially sustainable center, available to all. It would be on a public transportation route. It could function as an extension of the county library system.
Vote for it now.

What advice do you have to help me grow my idea?
I like the idea, I've traveled to other countries that have many internet cafe's where people go to just use computers. I think if the idea was "marketed" as a library, it could be a great thing, even saving money. The library could also include online journals, and databases of literature, that can sometimes only be found in libraries. I like the having the idea of having a staff on there. They could show people how to access more than just the internet, but the vast libraries available with projects like the Gutenberg project, or google books. Though many things are free and online many people don't know how to access them. I like this idea.
Libary of Congress already is FREE and ONLINE, www.firstgov.com
I agree with Babel. Great concept but it would be great in more depressed areas. I could also see it in a college town though - 24 hours a day. I'd be there printing/faxing/etc. Check out my idea when you have the chance...I'd like you to be one of my site's first users! Cheers!!!
Hey, like your idea alot, computers as well as internet access is extremely cheap that the cost of digital acess libraries is even less than one would think. On the other hand, why would Flagstaff need this, i thought of it as a vacation/college town. I'm in phx, i think more depressed areas are in need of such things. There could be satelite library branches w/o books, only computers - smart terminals. Ofcourse an individual can pick up a book at this location.
Please be so kind and return the vote, good luck! Stevo Perisic
