  Regardless of industry, you are apt to find "associations" for independents. This trend has taken hold in every industry to allow independents to compete by maintaining their independence while securing some purchasing power (and leverage/choice with respect to promotions and even gift cards). Look for local or regional contacts here. The next step is a low-risk approach for these pet stores directly, allowing them to hold inventory but only pay for what is sold. If you manage and track this effectively, you're giving them a 'risk-free' trial for your goods.
  
  Without knowing more about what you're selling, that's what I can offer. I think the "risk-free" trial always works well with tangible goods, just ensure they grant you legitimate space.
  
  Downside of web sales is driving traffic to that sale site. if you're on a site with traffic and can secure promotional status, you should be in good shape.
