Teach America Spanish Initiative
Teach America Spanish Initiative
Idea Description
Spanish is now an essential language in America, regardless of the political sides people take. Lessons are great, but only real world practice works long term. Many beginners feel embarrassed trying their Spanish at restaurants, etc. TASI is a way to ask Spanish-speaking individuals to help those learning Spanish to practice. This will be done through lapel pins. Individuals who are learning Spanish wear a TASI pin that says, "Learning." When Spanish-speaking individuals see the pin, they offer to help and a mini-practice session begins. Spanish speaking individuals wear "Teaching" pins, so learners can ask for practice help.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
As a non-profit national initiative, this would need to be publicized heavily. We’ll first contact Hispanic-American celebrities to seek endorsements. With a celebrity to help, the next step is to build the publicity machine. The $10k would go towards expenses, plus hiring a public relations firm to help convince television networks, radio networks, etc., to provide free spots promoting TASI. Additional funds can be raised from individuals and corporations (McDonald’s?). Finally, pins will need to be produced and sold online for as cheap as possible so people can begin the program as both learners and teachers.

I've been thinking and "Teach America Spanish Campaign" might be a better name, with TASC (pronounced "task") for an acronym. Thoughts?
I like it... And I'm tiered of English anyway...
I love this idea. It's time we started doing what we expect spanish speaking and others, to do. Learn the other's language! I think this is an inovative idea and with some kind of campaign maybe backed by the mayor's office or the city in some way, would get people engaged. It could bring together whole communities and people who normally would not communicate with each other.
A good idea, but a very touchy topic in this political climate. However; for a business leader to stay viable in the future they will need to know Spanish. Other countries teach their children multiple languages from early on because they understand the importance of communication without the emotional attachment that we seem to have toward English.
I like it! This is a clever combination of a real life social network and a good learning experience. I agree with Crowne though - it might be tough to get it to go over well in some areas. Also, please check out my idea and leave me some feedback. I would love to hear from you!
lA great idea! I invite you to join Change.org, where you could create a Change called Teach Spanish...or words to that effect. I would like to share other ideas with you on this topic, as I search for energy education modules for Spanish Speakers, and my networking businesses are engaged in Training Spanish Speakers to market in the Hispanic communities.
