Freecycling is a great idea and something that I do constantly. If I can get something that I need from there, then I will always do so first. Or look to Craigslist next. If not, and I have to make a purchase, then my next step is to support my fellow artisans who create handmade items on Etsy.com. If I can't find what I need there, which is rare, then I would look to something that uses reused products. Although most of the time I find things like that on Etsy made by upcyclers who use found materials to make things that are new. I know in the Harrisburg area there is a large number of college's working on bio diesel and they have been successful with producing byproducts that can be sold in niche markets or used at the university. Most college's would be interested in giving their students real experience in sustainable product development and it might be worthwhile to utilize those university resources. If nothing else, I am sure that touring campuses and selling your gear in the campus common or wherever students convene would be an enormous revenue generator and an easy way to gain lots of support.
