A nonprofit staffer approached me after I gave a speech recently, saying they have a program for youth but can't get them to come to receive training. We chatted and I concluded no amount of marketing would work because they had a product p[roblem. I think you want to involve your target market from the project design phase, now. If it's not something they want and will warm to, it will be hard to make it a success. Focus group the heck out of your concept now so it will be well-received, or find a way to force participation by marketing to schools who will require the training. Hope this helps!

liv4ever76 advised on One of the challenges will be to advertise this design consultation business to the right community. Another challenge will be to accumulate all of the data from material vendors needed for a successful home renovation material library.

Hi Wendy,
Yes, the consutation service will be for free, and the design sketch can be purchased for a VERY nominal fee. This is to give people the incentive to use our service over hiring a full time professional. The website will also make money through advertisements from different material vendors, so that will offset the cost of our free consultations & low design service fees

I agree with willrobinsoniii on determining if the right target group is high school or middle school; that might impact total funding. What if the kids need further support beyond the two months? Is there a plan for follow-up on the impact? How will this program impact the greater community where it will be?

I like this proposal - it's a great idea.

I would do this program for seventh graders in some areas. Some kids are forced to grow up faster than others depending on their home life, so they would benefit from your program. I am sending this idea to a lot of people who would agree that it is great and needed.
